Environmentalists Condemn the Presence of a Bear in Russian Games – level 311 de Maio de 2018 Nenhum comentário
A bear named Tim entered the stadium wearing a muzzle next to its tamer. It handed the referee the ball that started the match between third division Russian clubs. Afterwards, the bear clapped its paws to keep up with the excitement of the supporters. The match was held in the Russian city of Pyatigorsk on April 14th, and its images caused a quick rebuff from animal rights activists.
“Bears are not willing performers, but are trained from a young age through beatings, electric shocks, and the withholding of food,” said Ingrid Newkirk, the president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to the Washington Post newspaper. According to Brian da Cal, director of Four Paws, presentations in front of large crowds cause major physical and psychological stress to the animals.
Angusht, the team that played Mashuk, posted on its website that Tim would participate in the opening of the 2018 World Cup in Moscow. FIFA authorities, however, denied the information and said that the only animal to participate in the World Cup would be the Siberian wolf and mascot of the games, Zabivaka.
